Molting or not?

I've had a young Senegal for a few months now, and he seems very well adjusted and friendly. But for some time now he's been picking at the feathers on his back, and he's beginning to look pretty ragged back there. He's at the age to molt, or so his breeder had said. Does this look like what's going on? I'd like to know if it's something natural or a nervous habit he's picked up. Thanks.

That's not molting... can you take him to an avian vet to see if he has a medical problem?

He needs to see an avian vet.. How long has he been plucking his back like that?

Looks to me like his is shredding his feathers. My bird did something similar to his wingtips when he had to switch foods. Are you finding bits of feathers in the bottom of his cage? Feathers that are molted should be whole. I would take him to an avian vet.
