Morning feeding, changing of natural light

As a new owner of adopted Amazons 8 months ago, I wasn't thinking ahead. I knew in advance that Amazons (and other birds) will need a morning squawk. I found out that if I fed them shortly before sunrise, the morning squawk was more pleasant. This was OK because the days were getting shorter.

Now it is the opposite. I hadn't gotten to putting food in the cage and they were doing a very harsh and nasty squawking. It was then I realized that their demands to be fed was not their morning squawk.

So do I ride out that nasty squawking and make them understand that from now on, breakfast is at a fixed time? I am thinking 7 AM. Can someone give me a feel how long will it take before they realize the harsh calling for breakfast is not working anymore?

As I said, this is my first year. I looked ahead and when June/July comes around, sunrise comes 5:45 AM. I don't think I am interested in waking up at 5:30 AM just to

So will this squawking for demanding to be fed will end if ignored? I know the morning squawk is inevitable but it is way more pleasant after being fed. I fear that what might end up is with a mean morning squawk.

Seems you have created a morning expectation for breakfast. As the morning's Sunlight filters into your home they will be greeting it. That will always be a reality.

Our DYH Amazon is on a Sun Day Schedule and we are a bit farther North than you, so we have yet to cross that point. There are advantages to following the Sun's Schedule and there are clear disadvantages, but that is subject for another Thread.

What we do; After our lord and master has turned in for the night and prior to the house being total silent and with a soft reassuring voice, we let him know that we are placing fresh water and dry food in his cage. At most we get a soft response and hours later a happy morning. When his lazy staff finally provide him with his fresh wet /chop morning food, he's a happy camper.


FYI: "So will this squawking for demanding to be fed will end if ignored?" Not likely! But if they have food available, much more likely.

Als0--- breakfast aside, my bird generally wakes up 10-14 hours after she goes to sleep and wants to be uncovered. She doesn't scream at this time, but she will try to get me up...This morning, I heard, "Hello sweet bird, come here!", yesterday, it was, "Hello big bird, I love you! Come here!"

That's so funny, and true!!!!!! I've been enjoy the later sunrise lol, but it won't last....
It'll be back to hello? HELLO!!!! Then Come HERE, earlier every day...I working to convince them no one is uncovered or fed before 630,== I wisper still night night time, just like I do when they stir at my midnight bathrooms run... Lol I let you know if it works....Boki

Sam the BFA flaps like a crazy bird to get us up. A firm " Sammy, go back to sleep " usually works, especially if it is 4 AM!
