My birds new tree stand

I am still trying to figure out a cheap but portable/safe way to make the base----mine is massive and heavy...
I am jealous.

Nice! A suggestion. If those feed cups are attached, replace them with PVC end caps. Something large enough to hold the treat cups, easy cleaning!

Base was made using thick Melamine White Panel. It water and stain resistance. Then as far a wheels it is using 2.5" caster wheels with double sets of ball bearing race, don't use cheap casters as they won't hold up with weight. Plus with ball bearings it make is so easy to move around.

It is pretty heavy.

For my never-ending project, I am wondering if I should just get a sturdy plastic bucket and glue a heavy/wide PVC pipe into the center of the tub (extending about above inches above the rim of the bucket). If surround the hollow tube with plaster or some other heavy filler, I could potentially insert my stand's trunk into the plastic tube..I had a cast-iron tree stand that I thought would work and it wasn't wide or heavy enough.

It about 70 to 80 pounds. The issue I see with the bucket is it not wide enough, is the balance as far as tree tripping over. You going to need it heavy and big enough to counter balanced the weight? Then not sure the size and weight of your tree and if you balanced it so weight is pretty much to the center?

I'm going to build a large PVC play stand soon, so I see what available at the hardware store that can use to make a good enough base?

It's in pieces right now (as I had to bake the wood) but it's quite heavy and pretty wide...I am guessing 4ft at the widest point...maybe a little less...but the main stump is heavier than the wide parts (at least, on its own)...It was a sugar-maple limb that I cut (from a healthy tree that was being cut down anyway), sawed into bits, scrubbed/scraped and baked. The double ended dowel screws that I was going to use to put it back together are turning out to be too weak (even though they are stainless steel). I think I am going to have to get thicker and longer steel screws....and then there is the issue of the base. That is why it is a never-ending project...


I really wish there was a way for me to make it so that I could screw and unscrew the limbs without stripping the screw hole/boring out the wood over time...I wonder if there are threaded metal "sleeves" that I could insert into each branch, prior to screwing in the dowel screws....I just am worried that I will split the wood or strip the screw holes if I have to take it apart in the future.

If you find out, let me know!! I am not a fan of driving the screw straight into the wood.

Clean it up and fix a few issues as drill out deeper and notch a hole so can sink the screw into the wood. Clean it up as well.

Two of my birds Cooper and Pepper like it as they flew to it without having to put them on it. They flew to it by themselves. The other birds are still scared of it. Will be picking up some stainless steel hooks for toys when go to hardware store. Already pre-drill out holes.

I noticed I have the same Air purifier you have... I have that kind with other three Dyson Purifiers. Run 24/7. No bad smell, no allergy sneezing for Kise and I. I love the fresh air of those purifiers.

That IQair does a great job. I have one in bird room and one in living area and keep air quailty even at 0.3 microns lower then 825 particles and 2.5 PM at about 10 when compared to the rabbit air I use to have and my 6 channel counter read over 8,000 particles. The IQair definitely does wonders and have to vacuum out the pre filter every week and shock on the amount of fine dust it collects.

At first only Pepper would be the only one that would fly to it, but Pepper been calling the other two up and as of yesterday the other two been going up it now and using it now. The Cockatiels love the new tree stand. They fly on it all the time and stay on it for a good hour, or so before going elsewhere. So will have to hang some toys for them as well. I was going to get them, or make a smaller separate tree, but they seem to climb up and down it without issues and like being on it.

Do have to fix the cup design as they do take a dump in it from time to time.
