13yr. old male umbrella cockatoo,
we call him Amigo!

7yr. old Goffin cockatoo, she IS Sassy!!
What a relief! I was south with my dad for the week and there were two days when I couldn't get through to Tim on the phone and my imagination went wild! In a not so good way. I know what kind of damage Amigo can do.

He didn't get bit once because...Tim says, "I did not give Amigo the chance!". Even with two bath towels, each folded in half, on top of his falconer gloves, Tim was afraid, he was verrry afraid! Therefore, he didn't let Amigo out much. The one day he did put him outside, Tim had to burrito Amigo in a blanket to get him back in his cage. Bummer. The one day he let Amigo out of his cage, by just opening the cage door, without taking him outside, just leaving the slider open hoping Amigo would go outside...Amigo wouldn't. Tim said he climbed up the curtain onto a book shelf and started chopping it down! I asked him, "why didn't you move him off, with a broom or something?!". Tim says, 'he didn't want the bird to hate him!'. Needless to say, Amigo got burrito'd again.

My oldest son thinks that Amigo should have gone flying out of that room on the broom! My bird is sooo happy I'm home :)

I got a chuckle out of that....lol......Glad your home with Amigo!!!

Lol, we "burrito" and "taco" our GCC quite often too. He loves the Bird Taco but Bird Burritos are no bueno in Lokis mind.

Glad all is well, everyone survived and no one was injured. Sounds successful to me!

Thanks guys! Yes, all is well in Amigoland, once more. This bird has always, (since I've known him), loved being under things...whether it's a blanket, towel, newspaper, my robe, etc. He's also never minded being wrapped up. I believe cockatoos in the wild will burrow under downed logs, if they don't have a hole in a tree, to build their nest. I think that being covered like that makes them feel secure, in some obscure cockatoo way.

I think it's a great thing to encourage in all birds, playing in blankets and towels. It sure makes doing medical or grooming procedures on them a lot easier if they come to enjoy that.
