So I was at the computer, Oz was having a in-the-cage time out after he went on a rampage on my fingers, and suddenly he started shrieking so I turned around and all I see his him flapping madly on the far wall of his cage. I rush over to so what's wrong and saw that his whole foot was caught in a small opening. I was so scared he was going to break it with how much he was freaking out but luckily, a little push from me on the other side got it out fairly quickly.

Once it was out, he kept raising and lowering if for a while but he seems fine now. Does this warrant a cage change, or is it one of those isolated incidents that were just a stroke of bad luck?

See if you can bend that tab down so his foot can't go in....I'm sure there's a way to prevent it, blocking it off, maybe hanging his cuttlebone over it on a sturdy hanger?

Oh how terribly scary that must have been.

I'd try to either hide that loop behind a toy or bent it with pliers into such a small opening that it can't happen again.

I'm glad Oz wasn't hurt. :)

Oh, poor bird. A while ago my CAG's leg was trapped inside parrot toy. I just can't understand it. Cages and toys that are made specially for birds have to be safe for them, but they are obviously not!

Kalidasa has the right idea. hang a long toy, cuttlebone, just something to block that spot

your poor bird will probably find that spot again and may not be so lucky next time.

thank goodness you were there!!

The problem is that there are 3 doors like that which make 6 opening. I was thinking of maybe threading it with cotton/sisal rope or something to block it maybe?
