I read that birds dont like quiet because in the wild it usually means danger is present, and it causes them stress. I know that at night as well as day there are many sounds in the wilderness. My question is, does this fear of quiet also exist at night for our birds? If so has anyone considered using something like an alarm clock with nature sounds while our little friends are asleep? It's not something I've seen discussed, and I am a little curious.

It seems people usually worry the opposite-not being quiet enough while their birds are asleep.

Also I was thinking this would make it easier for people who are worried about disturbing their bird's sleep, as the other sounds might be masked by some nature sounds. Thanks in advance for any input.

It can't hurt to give it a try, just watch how your bird reacts :) And make sure he's getting enough sleep.

Never thought of it that way. I guess you could get one of those nature CDs (you know the ones with the rain noises and crickets) and play it on repeat all night.

I have found that my birds sleep better with quiet at night. You are right about quiet being a possible danger situation in nature, but, I think our birds get used to it in our homes. And it is quieter at night in nature than in the day. Also, quiet nights keep birds calmer for sleeping. And can help avoid "night frights".
