Hello,

Sorry again for my bad english.
Hope some one has some tips for me
Mando broke the tip of his beak, went to the vet yesterday but she couldent do annything, it has to grow back on.
She said must give him soft food.
I crusht his pellets and give it to him with some lemonade, also gif him crusht walnuts.
But this morning he lost a lot of weight.
Somebody has some tips for other soft food ?
Please ?

No lemonade! Try some pedialyte, and if you can't get that, maybe Gatorade.

Mix wet her pellets slightly, cook her beans and rice and steam carrots and broccoli--- whatever she likes. Think about it, what are her favorite things to eat? Make these things accessable to her, and if she keeps losing weight you must consult a vet.

If he likes mashed potatoes, you could mix the crushed pellets in, to make it easier for him to handle.

It may take several weeks or even months for the nerve endings to recede back enough to make the broken area less sensitive.....beak re-growth may take over a year.....

Wauw that,s a long time, I thought just a couple of days.

I made him veggies in really small pièces, he only Will take them when i feed him at the Side of his beak he is really scared of everything now, and is in a lot of pain.
I also give him eg white.

I really do hope its getting better soon, Bin bissy feeding him hole day because he is not able to eat by his self.

When his weight drop down tommorow again he must see the vet and they forses him to eat ( dont know the words in english )

Your English is just fine, Karen, don't worry about it. :)

I'm glad you are monitoring his weight. I also hope he recovers quickly. Please keep us posted, ok? Best of luck to you!!!

Make sure your Macaw has a concrete perch in the cage. This way, your macaw can reshape his beak by grinding it against the side to form the tip. You can even try baby food. Bend a spoon into the letter V then place the baby food onto the spoon and feed them this way, this way you can control what is being eaten and not wasted. Best of luck Joe

Use a blender to blend up the foods and feed that way as he won't have to pick up anything and feed with the spoon, all three of my Macaw will eat readily from a spoon. Don't forget to add some of his nuts to this mix as his diet still needs them included and if it is blended in there he will be able to eat it.

Since an inch was broken off, which is a lot, usually it would be just the tip that is missing, I would try enticing him with nuts that you have taken out of the shell, broken into small pieces and see if he will start eating that yet then gradually make the pieces larger. By doing this, you can gauge how much he is still hurting because what Macaw turns down their nuts. If the tip was only broken that might be sore for only a couple of days but it sounds like he lost a good bit and he will be sore for a longer time.

At least he is looking for comfort from you so keep giving lots of kisses and cuddles.

I like MacawLoverOf3's idea! Pellets are balanced diet, it will not help to gain much weight if he's lost quite a bit. You need to feed something more substantial like what the above post suggest! You can feed boiled egg yolk as it is high in protein. So you can add egg yolk to the mix and you can mix some cottage cheese up with it as well! So he will gain some weight back on him so he can heal.

Thanks so Much for a the help.
This morning Mando did not loose as Much weight as he has done yesterday.
Today i,m gone call the vet again, and now get prepared for on other day of healthy parrot cooking !

Yesterday I was able to bring him out in his celltei pack o bird, he feels so save in this back pack and was able to enjyo the outdoors while eating his veggies.
Hope today is just as good as yesterday.

The back pack is awsome !
I was so Lucky to win the Photo contest and win the back pack.
They are expensieve espcially for the Macaw, but worth Every penny.
If I Dident win it I would have purchased one !

Mando is doing better and better, today he tryed some pellets again, not Much but he,s trying !
