Yello Nape Amazon 7mths Old
I'm looking for a seasoned yellow nape owner who wouldn't mind sharing there experience with this bird. If you have time and love to chat about them please let me know.

I have many questions and want to bring my bird up correctly. He/She is 7mths old and I want to keep him/her healthy and happy as long as I'm able!!

Thanks look forward to hearing from you pro's

Welcome, I don't have a yellow nape, but we do have several members who do. Don't be shy with your questions or comments.

Hello and thanks.

Is it best to have a new bird out of the cage and being handled as much as possible or should he acclimate to the new surrounding first. He steps up already but don't no if I should leave him alone or kinda force some handleing time.

Also I work during the day. Should I play music for him so he can maybe pick up some singing?

Thanks in advance

If you JUST got him it's best to give him a little time to settle in. This can vary anywhere from several days to a week or so, after a few days if he is content with you changing his food and water and seems more or less comfortable with his new environment then just spend time in the same room with the cage open. Let him come out and explore. You can encourage him to step up and praise/reward him if he does, but if he doesn't don't force it, just leave him be and let him get used to the new place for a bit.

Music can be good, but I'd recommend keeping it to a quiet background music - many parrots sleep during the day. Also a TV can be good. I leave Animal Planet on for Auggie many days when I'm away. He has even learned when Jeff Corwin comes on and BOY does he get ticked off if the TV isn't on for Corwin's show.
