new at the parrot world

hi my name is matt. I'm new to the parrot world. My family had a quacker parrot. Until one day we came home and found the dog open the back door some how and eat our parrot. We love him and missed him. His name was elvis. Now we are looking for another parrot. Not sure on what to get. We don't want another quacker because noone could replace elvis. Do you have any ideas. We are looking for med to small parrot that talk. We also have two young boy a 6 and 3 old year thanks for the help.

There are so many parrots out there, are you planning on buying from a rescue / pet store / breeder? Who will be the main caregiver or is it for your boys?

Indian Ringnecks speak fantastic but they go through a biting stage when they are young.

I would just search the internet until you see one that catches your attention and then find out everything you can about that species..

it will be mainly my wife and i training the bird and the dog will be gone soon

I would recommend not getting a parrot with such an intelligent dog that can open the door and eat the bird. With that said, I hope the dog is going somewhere where he will be happy?!

he is an old dog. Am going have to put him down soon because of health problems.
