Hello Everyone!

I go by Tyson and my wife and I just recently adopted a 12 week old CAG. We have not done DNA testing yet but we are pretty sure its a boy from mannerisms, size, and shape of his head. We just didn't want to prick the little guy to know for sure as it really doesn't matter to us if its a boy or girl. His name is Mumble! This is our first baby parrot. We previously cared for my Dad's CAG Chloe while he was having some health issues. We kept her in our home for about a year. We were heartbroken to return her to my dad so we decided to get our own!

My wife and I just moved to California. We currently live in a little town called Cool. However I am from North Carolina and my wife is from Virginia. If anyone has some general good advice for raising a new baby CAG please send it our way! We know the basics of having an adult but are still getting used to this little guy. He is still quite clumsy getting around the cage lol.

Mumble is our newest addition to the small "farm" we currently have. We have 5 horses, 4 dogs, 3 cats, and 2 sugar gliders as well as our new CAG.

If anyone has some good links to sites on training him the basics step up, down, etc as well as some flight stuff as we intend on never clipping him and allowing him to have free access around our living room (with supervision) with multiple play perches.

Thank you all in advance for your help! Glad to join the community!

Welcome to the forum, Tyson & Mumble! (CUTE name!!) :)

There are lots of CAG owner on this great forum, so please don't be shy to ask question. :)

Welcome to California and congrats on your new Cag! You might want to get a couple DNA testing cards from Zoogen and have them handy. One day you may clip a toenail too short and that's the perfect time to get a drop of blood on the card and send it in. ;)

Welcome! Congrats on your new baby!

Welcome to the Forums. Now since that's out of the way I would highly recommend that you get your Gray sexed and fully vetted. One thing about being a bird owner is you should have them get used to the vet as soon as possible. Make sure as you handle them that you are allowed under their wings (for flight suit purposes for a fully flighted bird). No matter which way you look at it the bird will eventually have to be at the vet at some point, better sooner than later. Vetting is important in itself in case you decide to own another bird, or have him around other birds socially. You dont want to take a chance in spreading a disease your bird may have or getting a disease from another untreated bird. But, if the bird was already vetted than having DNA work should be no big deal. Either way welcome to the forums and GL with your CAG. Pictures!!!!
