My baby was born on July 1 and I got him as soon as he was weaned. I have a question about feeding. I offer pellets every day but he ignores them and eats seeds. I offer fruit and veggies and he ignores veggies and only likes apples! I also offer a bit of gourmet food mix of fruits, nuts, veggies which he sort of picks at.

Is it normal for a baby to be so picky? Am I doing the right thing? I worry his diet isn't balanced as I've read too much seed alone isn't a good thing

He is an absolute delight and has settled in nicely. Already kisses, steps up, is very playful and has even started laughing!

Any advice or suggestions wiill be appreciated.

Thanks

Nervous Newbie!

Yes, they all can be picky little things. My birds didn't like the first pellets I got so I tried Roudybush and they loved those. Size sometimes plays apart so make sure they are small enough, not too big. As for the other stuff just keep offering and also eat with your bird. They usually get very interested when you are eating something and are more likely to try it then. Good he is eating apple, my boys still won't touch fruit at all but I keep trying! They love rice, carrots, peas, corn and green beans. My birds perfer steamed foods instead of raw but they are smaller so I think it is easier for them to eat. Good luck!

Thank you!
I offer the "human food" during out of the cage bonding time. Don't know if this is the right thing to do but he seems to enjoy eating it from my hand
I read everything I could get my hands on beforehand but now that he is here I just want to be sure I'm doing everything right because it is already apparent they don't all follow the book!

Parrots are very good observers. If I try to feed Lucy something from my hand, she usually does not go for it. But if I put it on my lips or show her that I am eating it, she will zip to it and take it away.

Yes they are social eaters for sure. Even my canary is! When i am eating...the 3 dogs come running, the birds....it's like feeding time for everyone!
My conure was sometimes fussy by sight or color, but if i mashed things together, she would eat it.
If your bird likes the seed mix, i wonder if you tried Nutriberries to help transition visually to a pellet, if it could help? My girl loved them as a treat, and because i gave no seed, just pellet and table food, the Nutriberries were a good seeded treat.

Thanks. I failed to mention I do give Nutriberries. I tried the putting the food to my mouth trick and he ate bananas for the first time! I also ordered the Roudybush as suggested.

Great suggestions already. Thanks guys. :-)
