I recently added Apollo, a 4 month old pineaplle green cheek to the flock :rainbow1: However I've had lots of birds, but never a conure, So I was wondering if anyone could give me a list or any advice on things like health and psychological problems to watch out for in my little Apollo?? also, how often should I take him to the bets for check ups?
Thanks :22:

I love green cheeks! Such sweet birds! As long as you take good care of him there shouldn't be problems, GCC are great little birds. GCC parronts can give more in depth info

1 thorough vet check up a year is good for a healthy bird. I spend $300-$400(US) on yearly check ups. Addition vet visits can be done as needed.

I usually take mine once a year. I know the GCC can get a little nippy and somehow their bite hurts worse than the cockatoo. My one has finally stopped the nippy phase she was in and has become a huge cuddlier. My other never nipped but he has plucked on me. I changed a couple things around and treated him for itchy skin and he stopped. I'm not sure exactly what I changed that worked or if it was the combination of different things. Also, they need a lot of attention and things to do. Mine love to shred paper. They will actually pull up their cage lining up and shred it so I have made paper toys for them. And once you find their favorite thing to sleep with NEVER take it away. I got many dirty looks when I took the hut away from my one because he hung himself on it (happy huts). I buy huts that are handmade now. My other sleeps behind a leather toy and I have to replace it with the exact same one.

Also, I have noticed you call your green cheek a pineapple but he looks like a yellow sided to me in the pics you posted of him! He is a cutie either way. I love conures even though they can be strangely loud for little birds!

Green cheeks are amazing little birds. Just make sure when you do take Apollo to the vet that they are a proper avian vet. I recently lost my GCC because the vet that we take all our animals to didn't inform us that they didn't know squat about birds, when all the while a specialised avian vet was only a couple of towns over. (Needless to say we don't use that vet anymore!)

Hamish went through a very nippy phase but with the right training they soon learn not to do that :D For some reason Hamish wasn't interested in toys, she only wanted to be with us ALL THE TIME <3 Mine loved people, not toys and as a result would throw fits when she had to stay in her cage LOL.

Good luck, you've got a little cutie right there!

congrats on your new baby I LOVE green cheeks they are so cute and funny!!! Once a year should be good for a vet check up unless something leads you to believe he is sick or injured.
