1 baby peach front conure, named Jackie.
I am not a new member, but I do have a new baby, so I am trying to learn everything I can about the breed, and advise....I haven't named her yet, as I need to find an appropriate name for the personality....living in the mountains of Mexico, the state of Sinaloa, to be exact, in one of the best birding areas, there are many babies that fall from trees, etc...and this one may have. It was brought to me and given as a gift, a unfeathered, parrotlet, very very young. I have only had adult big birds in the past, so didn't know much about hand feeding. So the person who gave to me, and has rescued in the past, told me to feed it corn flour mixed with water, so then I read some of what and how to do it....and we are off to a great start....1st off, I live in a very small mountain village of about 200 people and one and a half hours from a town large enough to have a Petco. So I couldn't get bird formula, so I am making do, and we are on a lock down because of the Corvid 19 virus right now....yesterday, I did buy 2 small jars of baby food, carrots and mango, at one of our 2 very small tiendas, and have been adding a very small amount to her corn flour gruel....she loves it. I am feeding her with a syringe and she is eating about 5 to 7 cc a feeding.... I would just like some opinions, advise, or anything you would like to suggest...I would also love to hear from other parrotlet owners....the one that lives in our area, is basicly called a Mexican parrotlet, mostly green, with a little blue. Thanks in advance.:green:

Not so bad, I just hate that I can't go into town(Mazatlán) right now, because of the lock down, and stay at home stuff...would love to go look at bird cages, and go to Petco....etc, but I will make do now...she is too young to be in a cage, so I have her in a travel crate with a nest of rags, and she seems very happy.. she sits on my desk, so I can talk to her (I was told it was a her) When should she be transferred to a cage?? I hope not for 2 weeks, as we have to stay here that long....LOLI do take her out often, as I want her to be very social.:green:

I'm not familiar with parrotlets, but their early hand-feeding is probably similar to other parrots. Hope you are able to obtain some formula, as corn meal mixed with baby food is not ideal nourishment for the long run. Totally understand the lock-down, are you able to purchase a temporary order by mail?

This thread may be of assistance, and I realize your circumstances are different. http://www.parrotforums.com/breeding-raising-parrots/74363-so-you-bought-unweaned-baby.html

Good luck and stay safe!!

Hi Scott, we can't even get packages (DHL, or Fedex delivered here...LOL) they have to be delivered to a "post and ship" type place, in Mazatlán, which is one and a half hours away...We live in a very small village, with maybe 200 people, but I plan to get formula next trip to Maz, as we have a Petco there. Until then, I will have to make do with what I have....since the baby was totally unexpected...:green:

Can you add some protein with the baby food or perhaps finely ground nuts such as almonds? Hopefully you'll be released to travel to Maz soon to visit Petco.

Good grief, sorry about the link two posts ago. Pasted something totally unrelated to parrots, just corrected!!
