So yesterday I came up with a recipe for my Cockatiel, Arya. She's been loving it so far.

1 egg
1 eggshell
assorted fruit
assorted veggies
1 tablespoon of pellet

I put the eggshell and pellet in a ziploc and crushed them up with a meat tenderizer. I whisked the egg and put the cut up greens in with it. The egg and eggshell I added in and then put it in the microwave for about 30 seconds, adding some time until the egg was firm and cooked. After it cools a bit, I give her a spoonful of the...omelet...and she gobbles it up!:D She loves it so far, and plus she finally eats her greens.

Sounds good & healthy to me. Whatever works to get them to eat well.

Mmmm eggs are so good for them since we feed them a lot of fresh foods that doesn't have much protein. They need protein too!! Haha Bugs in the wild or something like that. Eggs are a good way to get them some protein. Omelet sounds good! I'll have to try it with Meiko!

Yes, egg has good protein but the egg yolk is too high in bad cholesterol, something that because parrots never consume in the wild, Nature did not provide them with a mechanism to metabolize properly in order to get rid of the excess so, in the future, please consider making the omelet with just egg whites (or you can use the egg substitute instead) - it'll be just as nutritious but much, much, much healthier for your bird.

And be careful with calcium. It's as bad to give them too much as it is to give them too little and, if you are giving her pellets (which already have calcium in them), as well as a good diet, you might want to reconsider adding eggshell to the mix (eggshells are 97% calcium so one eggshell is actually quite a lot of it) -this is why all pellet manufacturers tell you not to feed the bird extra vitamins/minerals if you are feeding pellets.
