NCD for our 2 eclectus. These bars are 1" spaced, and my girlfriend forgot to research spacing before ordering. Our old cage was 3/4" and the birbs are about a year old now.

Is the 1" spacing ok?

Should be fine for eckies. Remember though, switching cages abruptly can be traumatic and cause behavioral issues. Best to transition slowly.

Thanks for that info. We will be sure to transition them now that you mention it.

As my Good Friend stated so very well, introductions can be a nightmare. Let it show-up in the far other corner of the room and move with time across the room. As you get closer, begin moving a few of the existing toys and natural wood branches (not dowels) into the new cage. On the last day or two, food and water should be available in both locations!

Have fun with this. depending of the level of reaction, slowly start taking the old cage apart over the next few days.

Some Parrots will fly over to the new cage and move right in, others will need to very slowly transition. Adjust to your Parrots level of interest and/or fear!

If you want to double check the separation of the bars for your Parrot(s). Using your thumb and slowly place it with the finger nail up in between the bars. At the point you feel a bit of pressure STOP! Use that as a quick comparison with your Parrots head - the area between the eyes. Once again, my Good Friend is correct! This is only if you want to check double check.

NOTE: DO NOT PUSH your thumb between the bars. No one wants to explain to a First Responder why your thumb is caught between the cage bars!
