CAG Quincy - BD 3/27/00. Gotcha 6/00 ~ GW Macaw Savannah - BD 6/21/93. Gotcha 4/13 ~ B&G Macaw Coqui - BD 9/3/03. Gotcha 10/13 ~ Blue Crown Conure Sidney - BD Unknown Approx 5 Years Old. Gotcha 6/15/
I am adopting an 18 year old GW Macaw and I want to buy her a new bigger cage because hers is quite warn and frankly, too small.

Would it be better to transition her when she comes home into her own cage for a couple of weeks or should I put her right into the new cage?

Thanks!

I'm no expert, but if I was in your place I would put her right into a bigger cage and let her settle in that way. I would do this because she is cage bound. Normally I wouldn't say that, but in this situation I think it would be best.

But please wait for someone with more experiance to give advice before you decide ;)

Thanks Copper! I will keep that in mind and see what others have to say as well. But I kinda feel the same way you do!

Put her right into the bigger cage, doing this will be more beneficial. If you let her settle down in her old cage then switch it right away will just make more issues IMO. I tell people that are adopting from me or the rescue and have chosen another cage to just go and put them back in that cage. I do suggest to set it up similar to the original cage though.

JTbirds - That was my gut feeling. Thank you! :)
