Hey guys as you know I am in the hunt for my first large bird but my mom is the principal at the local middle school and one of the teachers has a son who was recently diagnosed with cancer so she had to rehome her Turqouise GCC named Dobby and my wonderful mother volunteered me to adopt him. At first I wasn't too worried i figured I could handle another sweet little Velcro bird but I was WRONG this bird was on a great diet of fresh fruits and veggies and pellets but he isn't hand tamed in the slightest and he also screams all day long. So now I spend all day trying to break these bad habits and build trust which is a pain in the butt that I personally didn't sign up for. But at least goose will have a buddy to keep him company after quarantine is over.

Sorry I wrote this right after he took a chunk out of my finger for trying to clean his cage I am glad to have him I really love a good challenge and I am glad that he came to live with me instead of anybody else I may not be the most experienced bird owner but I do know that I will try as hard as humanly possible to give him an awesome life. Also more good news I am now working at a local bird store to help people learn about birds and inform more people on the commitment it takes to live with one of these animals(also the pet shop has a couple macaws and amazons so I am gonna get some experience myself!!!)

Congratulations C.! Good of you and your mom to volunteer to adopt the little guy!

I know how excited you must be but please relax and give Dobby time to adjust. He is surrounded by an unfamiliar environment, it's perfectly normal for him to be defensive. He may not have behavioral issues at all and if he does, they aren't going to magically disappear without work patience and lots of compassion.

I agree w/Allee & I want to add that with my gcc, he doesn't like me messing with his home & will sometimes get real feisty where he'll bite horribly.
Congrats on being there for Dobby. With what his previous owner has been dealing with, the son's cancer, Dobby may not have had much interaction. Giving him time to adjust will be a good thing. It's great about getting that job!

If baby is saying, don't do this, then don't!

Great advice above, all.
Congratulations on a good deed and a great addition, CD!

Haha I understand I am just so used to my chilled out goose that I can pretty much do whatever I want around that the little PIssed off GCC caught me off guard. But dobby is already talking food out of my hands which is pretty good for only two days of being with him.

Congrats and kudos to you, flock, and mom.
