New from Iowa!!

Hello, I am looking to get a Senegal to add to our family. Which includes a hubby, 9 guinea pigs (run a rescue), 2 chihuahuas, and fish. I have had experience with a cockatiel in the past.

Love to chat with senegal owners, and any parrot owners for that matter

I had a red belly and he had simply the best character around! A little smaller, but still bigger than the 9" insinuates, as they have the same short tails as the rest of the poicephalus family Haven't had a Meyers personally, though I have played with many Senegals. Awesome birds.

Well, after some more research, I have added a Macaw to my list. I also have been looking at gcc, but I have always dreamed of having a large macaw (such as a greenwing) So onto more research and reading etc .

Spend a good amount of time not only researching, but see about going to a bird store where you can be hands on and ask questions (though they may not be truthful if they're trying to sell) or a rescue to get hands on experience and get some straight answers. You can see many different species. No need to rush into this decision either, otherwise you can make the wrong choice.
Remember too, asking people on the forum about their birds can only give you a little glimpse and general idea what a certain species might be like. Best is going to see in person wherever you can.

Yes, I have been in love with Macaws and Cockatoos for many many years. I always thought I had to start with a smaller species, but after reading here and other places, there are so many that have jumped right in. I am still researching many species. And my avatar may change alot, it doesnt mean its my end all species . I never jump all in without a lot of research. Plus I have to save up to purchase which will take at least a year. I am also looking at RB2s. They have the cuddly, and talking that I love. Plus they are not huge. But thanks for the welcome!

My vote is still for a Poicephalus They're beautiful, many can be cuddly, independent and not needy, quiet, and cute! Hypothetically, if I had the space and time, I'd have one of each kind of Poi!

Yep, babies do cost the most, sometimes you can find a very sweet adult for a quarter of the cost

I just put a $1000 deposit on our baby Green wing Macaw, my boys shoveled snow all winter and contributed about $800
