Green cheeked conure.
I had a cockatoo years ago
Hi, I am new here and I recently purchased a green cheek conure. I named her Lu Lu which I am not even sure she is a girl yet, but anyhow I am always looking for new ideas and training advice. I am really trying to potty train this bird but it is not working. I had a goffin cockatoo a while ago, (wish I still had her) and she was very easy to train to go on paper, but this bird not so easy.

Welcome Denise and Lu Lu!

GCCs are quite different from Goffins! The latter are my favorite parrot!

We have many members with GCCs who can give excellent guidance. Some parrots easily take to potty training while others never get the idea.

I have 2 conures and both were potty trained in about 4 hours. My youngest one who I'd only had for about a month and a half has actually never pooped on me or an unsatisfactory place as of yet (I do expect accidents so it's actually kind of a fluke). I figured it helpful to add a physical gesture or something like that as well as a phrase when potty training because it eliminates the confusion. I do a very slight tail tap as well as "go poopy" and it seems to work wonders. You just do the tap and phrase when you think your bird has to go (say every 15 mins) and wait for them to go in the desired spot while repeatedly saying the phrase and doing gesture and when they go give them a treat. Repeat until they know exactly what you want them to do. You have to be vigilant or this won't work so that means you can't forget to take them to the potty spot or if too much time goes by they'll have no choice but to go.on you. Never punish them for going on you...just ignore it and move on. Now that I've thought them that I can get mine to go anywhere, the sink, perch in cage, play stands, trash cans, outside literally anywhere, onto a towel in the car and even the toilet. I have a video of Ollie my sun going in the toilet on my YouTube channel linked in my signature. Hope this helps!

Welcome. Good luck with the potty training, I got Moosh mostly trained by watching her body language and the clock. If she looked like she was going to poop she went to the stand. If it had been 30 minutes she went to the stand. Every time she went to the stand I'd say "Go potty" and if she did she got a treat. If she didn't she came back over and we tried again in 3 to 5 minutes until she did her doody. Since she started flying a bit she goes back on her own.

Hi, and welcome.

I'm relatively new myself.
