Hi there, my name is Michelle. I had a Nanday Conure, a parakeet and cockatiels growing up. I am purchasing my first bird a Red Lored Amazon who was a rescue and now at a local bird shop. He will stay there for a couple of weeks while I arrange things here for him to come home. The people at the store are calling him Chico, but my kids aren't crazy about it..so I'm thinking about changing it, but I have no idea to what.. I can't wait to bring him home..I visit him everyday! Glad to find this forum!!

Ask how long his name has been Chico for, if you want to change his name it's good to pick something similar and use it as a term of endearment while still using the old name until the start to recognize the new name as their own.

I'm hoping to bring him home very soon. I am making payments on him..lol. His name has only been chico for a couple of months..but I'm starting to think it fits him. Question, ( and before I ask this, I want to be clear, that I will love him regardless and it has no bearing on my decision) but I was told that he talked already, and then when I asked what he said they couldn't remember. I have been spending about 2-3 hours a day with him when I visit ( trying to get him used to me before I bring him home, since I'm still paying on him) and I haven't heard him say anything..he does make sounds, but no words. I researched them and found that many of them do not talk, I read that it's rare for them to talk. I was just curious if anyone had one and if your talks. He's my baby either way, but I was just curious because I would love it if he can be taught to talk.

Welcome to the forums! I love Red Lored amazon's! I have a spectacled amazon, also know as white fronted amazon. Hes precious & very close to me! Ok, he's obsessed! He talks w/ clarity! He sounds exactly like me! glad u found our forums! Post photos when u can!
