Hello! My name is Heather and I am new here. I've had birds before and currently am the proud owner of two parakeets. Jewel and Tweety. In about a month and a half I will be bringing home an African Grey. She is not happy in her current home because she lives with several Macaws and they make her nervous when they scream. I have a quiet home, and a lot of time to give so I am going to adopt her. I haven't ever owned a large bird before so I am wondering, in order to calm her and get her use to me, if anyone would have tips? I had a nanday conure before and he hadn't ever been handled. It took me 4 months of sitting in front of cage constantly talking to him in order to get it to where he would come to me. Will the African be similar to that?

Hi Heather, Jewel, and Tweety! Nice to have you on the forum!

African Greys are sensitive parrots, and macaw screaming would be most unwelcome! Jewel and Tweety will be comparatively silent room-mates and allow your new companion to accommodate with ease. Perhaps the best introduction to Grey personalities is a sticky-thread created by Mark, aka Birdman666: http://www.parrotforums.com/congo-timneh-greys/59366-cag-101-a.html

Enjoy, it was created by a pro with much first-hand experience!

With time and patience, your grey will be amazing. They are so smart. I agree, read bird mans thread great stuff there.

Hello Heather and welcome!
I'd love to see pics of Jewel and Tweety, and also of your new girl when you get her: Glad you joined us!
