Hi everyone! My husband and I are now the new owners of a beautiful 10 month old female Camelot Macaw. This is my first macaw, and my first large bird. I've owned smaller parrots in the past, but we made the jump to large parrots with this purchase. So far she has been wonderful....for a first time macaw owner, she has been perfect. She is still a baby so we're teaching her all new things, including not biting too hard. With being a Camelot, she is technically 75% Scarlet macaw and 25% Blue and gold. We were kinda nervous with the scarlet, since we've heard they can be a bit more tempermental. Is this really the case? So far she's been wonderful, but we just keep waiting for the day she turns. :) I've attached a couple pictures of her.

Hi your going to love Macaws:) I have a Catalina and shes wonderful. She was my first big bird [I was nervous too].Yours must have an even bigger beak! But I have to say even though she has the biggest beak shes the most gentle of my bunch and one of the easier ones [I think its the blue and gold in her] :) It took her to almost 2 years before she really started talking. Keep us updated [and its neat when you feel comfortable with bigger birds it opens up a whole new world] Im excited for you!

Awwww... What a beautiful baby. Jealous. She looks a lot like our Catalina, who is the love of our life, spitfire and all. You aren't too far from us (Springtown). Where did you get her?

Macaws are awesome!!! Congrats on getting her! :) Good lookin' bird!

Horsesculpter, we actually purchased her from a breeder down in Italy, Texas, which is about 15 miles south of Waxahachie. He actually breeds scarlets, but he had purchased her from a breeder in Mansfield to eventually breed to get capri babies. He didn't want to wait until breeding age for her, so he decided to sell her. I wasn't too impressed with him as a breeder....he had never owned macaws before and had purchased two sets of breeders from some lady who was getting out of breeding birds. He kept them outside, and only had Tiki, 2 sun conures, and a baby scarlet inside. He even had babies that were outside with the parents. We've noticed that a lot of the things he said she didn't do at his place, she does quite a bit here. She seems calmer, and I had a couple people comment on her stress bars. We had her checked out by a vet and she's in perfect health, so I'm hoping after a good molt, she'll look great. When do they usually have their first big molt? He said she never groomed herself when she was with him, but she grooms herself all the time here, so I'm hoping she will start molting sometime soon. :)

What a great looking bird!!! You must be so happy!

I agree with Pinkbirdy. Of all our parrots, our Military Macaw is actually most gentle with her beak. Even if she gets momentarily upset she only mouths us. Congratulations on your beautiful Macaw!

What beautiful colors. congrats on your new baby and welcome to the forum:)

She does look like a Catalina. I think Camelots are 2nd generation hybrid from a Catalina and Scarlet ??

Pinkbirdy,
Yes! She is a cross between a Catalina and a scarlet. I've seen pictures of catalinas that look almost exactly like her, but we do have her paperwork and DNA testing that says she is Camelot. She's very sweet, and has been learning how to behave. :)

shes gorgeous! i was about to comment on the stress bars as well until you mentioned it :P good luck with her!

She has such nice colors. I really want one of those or a harlequin one day. Welcome to the forum.
