Hi. I'm here to do more research and hopefully get some advice. We are a family of three. myself a stay at home mom, my son a 3 year old and my husband. We currently have two dogs a 16 year old toy poodle and a 6 year old cocker spaniel both of which I've had since 8 weeks. So I'm definitely ready for the long term commitment of a larger bird. We are looking into adding a Goffin to our family. I do have some bird experience I owned parakeets growing up and my mom has a galah. Any help, is gladly appreciated and welcomed. I'm trying to be as prepared as possible for the next step bringing home our bird :yellow2:

Snap!

Well not quite, my kids are a bit older and my poodle is a size up, but pretty much. Mum had a galah, but Marley lives with me now. We're not sure yet if it's a long term foster or a more permanent arrangement. That said, the only person I'd let him go to is back to Mum!

Can I ask why you're not considering a Galah? Just thinking in terms of noise, little ones etc....it would seem like a safer option?

Welcome!

Hi there Debbmarie, and welcome to the forums. :) You've come to a great place to do research and to ask questions. :)

Honestly I've wanted a Goffin for years. Don't get me wrong I love Raz. But as far as breed I've just got my heart on a Goffin

Welcome, and I am a fellow lover of Goffins. They are outstanding companions, full of personality and affection.

My family purchased a pair of wild-caught Goffins about 26 years ago. Took them roughly 5 years to breed, and they had 3 chicks from separate clutches over a 5 year period. Peanut and Popcorn were excellent incubators, but gave up on each baby after just a few days of feeding. My Mom had to hand-feed them round the clock the first few weeks until they could last a night between meals! Thankfully her work situation permitted her to take them to the office for full care!

Today all 5 are doing well, and each has a special personality. Ten years ago the patriarch, Popcorn, turned aggressive against his mate, Peanut. They were separated; he lives in a large flight cage but cannot be routinely handled, and gets as much love as possible via head scratches. His cage is in a finished garage, and I let him out to explore periodically. Peanut tamed very nicely and lives with her 3 sons. There is some rotation necessary, as Peanut and her middle son Abby dislike the firstborn Gabby.

I've found this family of Goffins to be extremely hardy with very few illnesses over the years. Hope you acquire a Goffin soon, and have similar great experiences!!
