Hello,
i hope everyone is doing fine, my name is Abir and i am from out of the states (not native english speaker). I saw your forum online and loved the atmosphere between the members and decided to register. I am looking into adopting/buying a 5 year old B&G who plucked his feathers but i am soooooo nervous because this is the first time i have a bird this big, had CGA and jardine's parrot and IRN and lovebird and cockatiel (i know you must have heard this story a thousand times) and i thought this forum might help. I wish you a pleasant sunday :07:

Welcome to you and your flock! So happy that you are considering adopting a bird that sounds like he needs a good home :). There are some wonderful threads in the macaw forum that should give you some good info to start off. Lots of threads by Birdman666 who has a lot of experience with macaws. Have you met this bird yet? It might help you get a feel for how he fits with you. Do you know if he’s got any underlying health issues or has seen a vet for his plucking? I’m sure others will be along to provide some advice....but I wanted to say that we’re glad you’re here!

Welcome Abir...

Hey Aacube, and welcome to the forum, you have quite a flock of love their, can you share some pictures? would love to see your babies.

Welcome to the forums, Abir! It takes a big heart to adopt a plucked macaw and you'll find prior experience very helpful. An excellent thread to consider: http://www.parrotforums.com/behavioral/52217-plucking-search-answers.html

As suggested, reading various threads in the Macaw Forum will help you understand the challenges. Many find their beaks intimidating, but they generally bite less frequently than smaller birds. Great place to start: http://www.parrotforums.com/macaws/56384-big-beak-o-phobes-guide-understanding-macaw-beaks.html

Your English is excellent, Abir! Please let us know if you have questions to help with your decision.

Good morning awesome people! (here it is morning)
Thank you for the warm welcome and especially Scott for the links, i barely got some sleep, spent all the night browsing the forum and a member said something along the lines of "a rescued macaw will be extra loving" that really gave me hope. The macaw from what i understood is being "treated" but the man appears to only feed him sunflower seeds, so a proper diet like all my other babies (pellets and vegetables and fruits daily) will of course be added as well as a visit to the vet. I really want to post the video or pics of the macaw but still don't know how
One last question, what will i do about the noise level? I live with my parents and in a apartment! Please tell me this is doable

Beautiful pics, love your Jardine!!

Noise can be a problem with a macaw. Many are not noisy all of the time but especially in morning and late afternoon. As prior links show, it is possible to somewhat soundproof a room, but the volume can be an issue. All a matter of expectation, how much noise your parents (and neighbors if an) will tolerate.

I'm glad you joined. Good for you, for reaching out and researching. I'm glad you found us.
