New owner to a green cheek conure

Hello ! my name is christi and me and my boyfriend bought a 3 month old green cheek conure yesterday. His name is kaleb or kay for short. We are very excited about this and want to learn so much about him. He is a really friendly bird but everytime we go to take him out the cage he runs from us or when he is out of the cage he trys to fly away. Could this be because he is not used to us? How long could it take for him to get used to us?

most important, give him time to settle!

just do little greeting steps for now, like you are tryin to make friends with a small frightened child,
tempt him to cage bars with treats:32:

soft voices, no big movements

if your lettin him out of his cage, make sure you have plenty of time to tempt him back in with a treat, oh an in a secure room. worse thing you can do is to chase him about, to get him in!
might be best if you's spend time with him, one at a time to get him use to you both

i would leave handling him for now, till his happy with you being near him etc
