This weekend we adopted Santa from a local rescue. He has been wonderful and has adjusted well. He speaks a bit and whistles alot. He definately social and communicates well. He has a very distinct - hey come get me call! and a very distinct leave me alone chirp! I think we will have very many great years together. He is 10 now.

Here is my question - we came home from vacation to find tons of tiny ants in our kitchen, not by Santa, he's in another room. But we have tried everything we can think of to treat them at home without using anything that could upset Santa's respitory system. Ants are getting worse, not better - does anyone know of anything we can use to get rid of them that will not bother the bird?

We got Santa from a wonderful local rescue. We went to visit as an entire family (we have an 8 year old and a 1 year old). The owner picked a few birds for us to play with and see if we liked any that seemed comfy with us. We played with two and settled on the Senegal Parrot. He was calm, sweet and makes fart noises! Every boys dream pet!

We had a few more visits to make sure we were a good fit! We practiced getting Santa in and out of his cage. We were told he is cage aggressive, but we haven't had any trouble. He lets any of us take him in and out!

We are still learning each other! I'm learning what fresh foods he'll eat and which he tosses over side! He does not like carrots! He has a Lil tabletop stand in the dining room that he sits on to eat breakfast and dinner with us.

We have family time after dinner where he sits w us while we watch tv and talk. He seems pretty happy. We love him! He doesn't play much, but he is still settling in. We hope he will start to explore his cage more than his favorite perch and bowls.

He talks to! We were told he could say Hi Santa, but he also says HELLO, loud like that! He says thank you, makes fart sounds, laughs (timely too! Like when I try to get him to step up to come off my shoulder ... He will bunker down do I can't easily get to his feet and laugh) and he makes r2d2 noises!

Hi there, and welcome to the forum. :) Santa sounds like a boatload of fun. :D

As for your ant problem, try and tackle the OUTSIDE of your house, because that's where they are coming in from. I found that TERRO bait stations work GREAT for those pesky things. :)
