A quick update on Frankie...she's now been home with me for a week, and I'm absolutely amazed how fast she's warmed up to me. Towards the end of the week (after about 4 days), she was already letting me scratch her head. Now, she lifts her wings and lets me pet her all the time.
She still gets a bit jumpy when I walk her to other rooms in the house, but I'm sure that will pass. I got her a new play stand last week. It took her about 3 days before she would sit on it at all, now she wants to be on it all the time. I placed it in front of the window in my home office (where I spend a lot of time), and she looks out the window and has a snack while sitting on her stand. I'm hoping to move it to different rooms and see how she does with a change of scenery.
She did something that was pretty amazing this weekend too...at least to me anyway! I fixed some food for both of us, and offered her a piece of cooked carrot. I said to her, "How about some carrot?" She looked up, and said the exact same thing back to me. While it wasn't as clear as some other phrases she's said, it was definitely understandable. I never imagined she could say somethng back that quickly without any repetition. The other funny thing is her saying the same word in different voices. It's very strange to hear her say "Hi" in a woman's voice (the previous owner's), and then say it again sounding more like me. She also is saying, "Come on, step up." That's something I've said to her quite a few times, and she's learned that one already too. She says that now when she wants me to pick her up, especially if I'm out of the room.
Frankie also got her first bath since she's been with me this past Saturday. I couldn't quite coax her into the shower. I guess it was too much water, but managed to get her to comfortably sit on the shower door frame and misted her with a spray bottle. She had a blast with that. We were both soaked by the time she was done, but it was a lot of fun.
