Hi everyone.

I am Dren. Always loved parrots. Never had one. Now I got one for my daughter! I wanted a talking parrot. I am unsure what species the parrot is as the seller kept confusing me. I'll post a picture. Maybe someone can help.

Looking forward to the parrot world..

Regards.

Welcome and be welcomed. Indian Ring Necks cn be good talkers, but talking is never a sure thing with any parrot. IRNs need to be played with and socialised a lot ie every day, to keep them tame. Get your parrot the biggest cage you can afford and have space for, IRNs especially with their long tail feathers need that. Good rule of thumb, your bird should have space to spread his wings open fully inside his cage. What are you feeding him?

Welcome to the forums, Dren! A good seller should provide plenty of information and answer your questions!

Hi everyone.

Thanks to the many warm welcome replies. Indeed a good seller should provide answers but sellers where I live are very scarce. So I'm left on my own and help from this community.

Hi there. Thanks for your reply. My parrot seems to be kind of scared and moves around the cage grabbing the wires with the claws. He made some weird sounds now seems to be quiet. I have been trying to talk to him. Gave him bread. And when I put the finger inside the cage he tries to bite it. I attached a picture of what kind of food I got him. Is there any link I can learn more about parrots behaviour.. And how do I tell if I am improving?

Thanks again.

Dren.

Hi Dren and welcome to this very informative forum from which I have learned a lot.
As far as I know, bread is not a good food for parrots (I hope I'm right here?). I would suggest to google the species and check up on some of the websites as to what to offer for food. In general, parrots eat lots of veggies and fruit, and pellets is also an important part of their diet. Bird seed should be given as a treat only.

Oooh what a beautiful Indian ringneck!
How is he going?
These parrots have incredible minds - they need to be kept nice and busy with lots of jobs to do. Foraging works well and can be as easy as a piece of unflavoured popcorn wrapped in newspaper. I've included a couple of video links of Henry, our IRN, talking up a storm. I do work from home and so he is with me most of the time.

How old is S/he? I'll use he generically...

Keep asking questions, googling, and sharing :) You've got yourself a lovely wee parrot there. Grab your favourite book and read aloud to him so he gets used to your voice.
Have him in a quiet place where he can watch you without pressure.

My birds get a wee bir of crust on a rare occasion (generally when it's pinched from the breakfast table ;) ) But generally eat a high quality seed mix, pellet, and a high portion of fresh fruit, veges, and sprouted seed.
