hi everyone,
I take advantage on your kindness to ask a question again;
I talk on behalf some italian friends as well,since we have begun this thread in a Italian forum but we are not able to identify the truth;so we hope that you all can help us to find the correct road.
long story short,I go to ask to you all our question:
Is it possible to provide chicken to our parrots just as rewards or in limited amount?
Animal protein can be dangerous (chickens or insects) or it can be usefull to our feathered friends?

All of my birds get the occasional cooked chicken bone, often with some meat left on it. :) Each and every one of them LOVE it. They eat the entire thing, bone and all.

Codie goes absolutely mad for a Chicken Bone with a small amount of Meat left on it! I give her these as a treat twice a Week:)

Thanks for your answer;
Ok, from what you wrote I understand that it is harmless.
Do you think that the meat (insects,chicken or any else that contains animal proteins) can be usefull to the health of our parrots or you give it only for the why it has a good taste?

i wouldnt feed them chicken much at all. but if you take a LITTLE TINY bit and boil it with no seasonings(unless otherwised reasearched and proved to be safe) will not hurt them. not often though! think, in the wild they may get the ocasional bug in a bite of their fruit, but thats it. chicken bones are also good. sometimes with a bit of meat. but may i ask, what bones? like bones when you order chicken wings, or out of like chicken breast?

I have never used meat/bones that were prepared by somebody other than myself. The bones I use are drumsticks, thighs, and wings which were either baked, barbequed or cooked. :)

Thanks for your kind and usefull answers;
Thus we can rule out that the meat hurts indeed from your answers I deduce the animal proteins have to be present in the diet of our feathered friends.
Thanks again.

I guy,
first I would like to thank you for answering always to my questions;
Unfortunately I have to admit that you all (international forum users) have a huge skill about breeding methods;
I really am a little bit upset because few users of the Italian forum continue to state that it's wrong to provide animal proteins to birds in captivity;
I have read your all posts and mostly I have read what dott. James Harris wrote(JerseyWendy' S link), thus I have realized it's safe to provide meat indeed it should NOT miss in the normal diet of our feathered friends;
The thing it does me upset is to read a post of an Italian vet that wrote it's un-advisable to provide anything that contains proteins!!!!
How can we(Italian people) increase our skill our competences whether there are vets that state opinions opposite to international opinions?
How can I demonstrate to this vet that he is continuing to be wrong?
(the users believe more him than me for the fact he is graduated)
I will appreciate every tips.

I don't provide meat to my birds at all. Parrots don't *need* animal protein in the form of meat to live. That said, I do provide eggs. Cooked eggs. Usually hard boiled but sometimes scrambled. Some people think it's carnivorous, but birds have been known to eat their own eggs. I feed chicken eggs though! Not eggs that they've personally laid! I've been feeding eggs about 3-4 times per month in one form or another.

Providing too much protein can potentially lead to high calories and/or kidney problems, but feeding cooked meat in small portions infrequently isn't going to harm them.

What does the vet recommend in regards to feeding a healthy diet?

Eating the Marrow from Chicken Bones is highly nutritious for Parrots!! The odd bit of Chicken left on them does them no harm whatsoever!!

Yes, I know now, since I already received your feedback about it,however this vet is very stubborn.

The mistery seems to be explained;
The italian vet seems to be a troll known in almost the whole population of the Italian forums;
Thus everything he has written is fake;
he has posted this document,however first it is very poor in terms of alimentation but after it does not deny providing any proteins;

I will post the link of this thread on the Italian forums because I would like to popularize the info that the birds need the animal proteins.
Thanks for your time and support again.
If you want, then you can close this thread,since my curiosity has been satisfied;).
