Hello everybody I am new to the forum and look forward to being a part of it. I just got a baby rosifrons conure (Male) From a very reputable small hobby breeder. I brought him home yesterday and being that it was pretty late when i did get home, put food and water in his dishes and went to sleep. I spent the day with him today and cant help but notice that hes horrified by me. He avoids my hands and when I do gently scoop him up he just stands perched very still. He has not said a peep, barely moves around his cage, doesnt play, sleeps alot and just started eating this afternoon. Hes 70 grams and seemed very active and happy with his brothers and sisters at the breeders house. Maybe I am just used to my previous GCC who literally helped me put his cage together( tightening bolts with his beak the first day I got him). Ive uploaded his behavior to youtube. Any suggestions to help him relax?

Welcome to the board! Might be freaked due to loss of siblings and home. Hopefully those with more knowledge will peep up soon

Time and patience is what you need. Leaving his siblings and the only things he has even known is a traumatic thing for a young bird. You are a stranger and it will take time for him to build a bond with you. Don't press him and let him relax and become comfortable with his new home. I would avoid trying to pick him up for now. Speak often to him and have treats to offer. It may take days or even weeks but he will come around. Just don't go too fast and force him past his comfort level.

Also, you have plenty of space in that cage and I see you have a good start with toys. But more things to keep his attention will help also.

I just adopted a baby Aztec Conure 2 or 3 weeks ago and he / she is just now settling in , he was petrified when I first brought him home but now he is starting to make some noise and will actually stay with you longer then 5 minutes with out trying to fly off , time and patience is the key

Remember that he has no idea what is going on, everything that he has known is suddenly different and it's scary. It just takes time and patience, soon his little personality will shine again.

Ok ... Now this is pretty unbelievable to me. As soon as my fiance got home with fresh organic fruits and veggies, (oh yea, and especially orange juice which he only had a swig or two of) he immediately Sees us unpacking groceries, bantering back and forth about our days and starts coming to life!!!! Hes chirping and purring like crazy, starts crawling all over his cage, For the first time he actually leaves his cage to start investigating. I was shocked when I walked up to him and showed him the back of my hand and he crawled up without hesitation. One thing lead to another and hes preening my arm hair and crawling up my fiance's shoulder. This was him a few hours before bed. These animals absolutely amaze me!!! Yes! This is the same Conure from the Video taken
earlier today!

Really cute picture! Glad that he came out of his shell so quickly for you. Still, keep it slow and let him go at his pace. When he feels comfortable and starts gazing around at all the new things you can take him new places in your home to explore. These guys can by hyper wanna see and chew on everything critters. Make sure your home is as conure proof as possible.

May I make a recommendation about the perch in his cage? Straight wooden dowels like that are bad for their feet over time. See if you can get some natural branches and rope perches. You can find excellent selections and toys at various sites. One of the favorites of people on this site is My Safe Bird Store. I have gotten a lot of good items from there over the years.

Indeed... I do have two rope perches in there for him but hes afraid of them haha. Possibly because of the color. I also just got two dragonwood branch perches for him also. I might start removing the dowels from the cage once he gets more comfortable with his surroundings.
