Just bought a new second hand quaker. He's been here about four hours. I have owned parkeets and cockatiels but not a parrot. If anyone has any advice on how to make him feel comfortable I would greatly appreciate it. He is two years old.

Welcome to the forums and enjoy your new addition. By all means try to interact with him. Is he supposed to be hand tame? Will he come out of his cage? If your unsure about how he will react with you, try the following:

Sit beside his cage with the door either open or closed and just talk to him or even read or sing just so he knows your there and starts to get comfortable with you being there.

Open his cage door and see if he will come out. Try and offer him a treat by hand and see if he will take it from you. But to me, the quicker you begin reacting with your bird, the shorter the transition will be.

Budgies (aka parakeets) and cockatiels are parrots, too...

I agree, spend some time with him and offer him treats. If he seems comfortable with you around, you can try letting him out. If he's not quite comfortable, give him time to settle in and get used to all the new changes.

He does come out of his cage. He sits on the top of it and on the door. He will take crackers and stuff from your hand. He has also gotten on my shoulder but he sits there for a second then he bites you and laughs. I'm Hoping he will warm up a lil more I have tons of patience, He seems a lil skittish or your hand though. Thanks for all your help.:green2:
