Good Morning to all,

My name is Roger and I have a Mealy Amazon that I was told is around 10 years old. We have had her for about 2 weeks she was a rescue from a gentleman that said bird was not in good shape and in a dark area. I have taken her and given her a home. She had no cage so I had to find a cage quickly had her groomed nails long beak and feet were very dry. Went to my local bird store in Florida and found help with a cage some insight on getting her on a better diet and they also groomed her. She is starting to settle in and is at times allows us to rub her head and she has stepped up on my son and myself. I look forward to learning from you all.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Welcome Roger, thanks for rescuing a Mealy! I'd highly recommend reading the "sticky" threads atop our Amazon Forum: http://www.parrotforums.com/amazons/65119-i-love-amazons-going-journey.html

Parrots can be stubborn eaters, some information to supplement what you learned at bird store: http://www.parrotforums.com/parrot-...7-converting-parrots-healthier-diet-tips.html

A well-check with avian vet is recommended for baseline health assessment and management of potential health issues. Ten years is young for an Amazon, wishing you decades of happiness. Let us know if you have questions or concerns!!
