Hi all, A friend of mine who is a vet tech, had told us about a customer who had a cockatoo, but needed to find a new home because of failing health. My Daughter has been wanting a bird for the longest time, and she jumped at the opportunity. Unfortunately for my daughter, the bird has taken a strong liking to my wife and i, so the bird is now OURS!!!! To be honest, when we first got it i hadnt thought much about it, but the bird has really grown on me, and now i wouldnt give it up for anything, somewhat surprising though, i am more of a lion or bear type of guy, so my entire family is somewhat surprised at my relationship with this bird. But he is awesome, and i am glad he is part of our family now. He is a Moluccan Cockatoo, male, 23 yrs old named Addison.

It's amazing how quickly & easily these feathered monkeys can work their way into our hearts & lives! Welcome to our world, and this forum. There is a lot of information, and helpful, caring people here. We often say that they choose us, instead of us choosing them. Good luck with your new friend.

Ha Ha, feathered monkeys, i like that, definitely describes my little buddy!!!!

He's a very pretty cockatoo, and it looks like he's grinning from ear to ear in those pictures!

Welcome to the forum. I'm still very new here, as well, but already it's become apparent that this is a great resource for discovering all sorts of information about properly caring for my precious winged clown.

Yes, for the most part he is a very happy and well behaved bird, but he does have his moments as i am learning is pretty common with cockatoos. He has definitely worked his way into the family, but is a very welcome addition.

Just think of him as a cuddly bear with feathers and a can opener on his face:D Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new bird Addison who is very pretty by the way and probably tougher than a bear:)

Welcome to the forum. I never thought of my self as a bird person since grew up loving cats and dogs. I started out with parakeets but I never formed a bond since they were more aviary birds. The next species I tried were cockatiels and instantly my entire family became bird lovers! So enjoy your beautiful bird, peace.
