Hello everyone.

I have a green cheek and a sun.

We got new windows in our house just yesterday. The birds were taken off premises during install. Once the installers were done, I turned on ceiling fan and opened the window to let fresh air in. I also have a few HEPA air purifiers going in the room. The smell was very mild for the first hour after completion, but went away after that.

Is it safe to put them back in their room? It has been ~23 hours since then. Just seeing if anyone else has had window installs recently.

The caulking used on the inside is a urethane acrylic sealant. Specifically https://www.tremcosealants.com/mark...tion/urethane-acrylic-latex/tremglaze-ua1300/

Thanks for responses. :gcc:

Multi-story home, open the windows on the first floor on the side facing the incoming wind. On the second from, open the windows of the side in which the wind is leaving. This will add in pulling additional air out of the house as warmer air naturally rises and will lift the air out of the home.

Single level homes, open a couple on the incoming side of the home, on the leaving side, open all the windows as this will create a vacuum to help pull the air out.

The VOC off-gassing tends to be low assuming that the Windows and their components are manufactured and assembled in North America. The caulking can be an issue as urethane acrylic does off-gas while the caulking completes expansion, normally with in 6 to 12 hours, temperature dependent. The cool it is the longer (slow) it takes to finish expansion.

Do not use your filter(s) until at least 24 hours after installation as what chemicals are off-gassed now sit in the filter. If you have had the filters on, shut it off and change the filters out.

Best to keep the Parrot in the open part of the home and not in a single room.

Good information. I'll change out filters in that case.
