Hi. New to the forum. Have been doing a lot of reading and reasearch and after spending some time at our local bird store and speaking in length to the employees we decided to go with this breed. He is only two months old and still is being fed formula so has to remain at the store for a couple more weeks. For the size, temperment and our schedule it really felt like a great choice. Would love to get any feed back in this type of Amazon. The little bit that I read seem to suggest good things about them. Will hopefully get pictures of our new guy. Thinking of calling him "Dobby".

Welcome! From what I remember, it's a smaller Amazon, right? Someone here has one but they haven't been on in a while. Lots of Amazon people here, and great advice :).

I DEFINITELY approve of the name idea!! Just don't give him any socks or he will be free :54:

I haven't met any YSAs in my days but I'm sure someone on this forum will have some advice for you. We definitely need pictures of your new cutie! Welcome to the forum!!

Welcome to the forum. I had two pairs of breeder YSA years ago. pretty neat although a bit smaller. Common pet in their home range. Howard Vorens website,voren.com has some good info YSA.

YSA are sweet hearts and as stated, they are on the smaller size of the Amazon tree. But that does not mean that like their larger family members they can't be full of themselves, for they truly can.

Just because your Amazon is a bit smaller, I would not undersize your YSA's cage, they are as active as any Amazon and the more room the better. I like cages that start in the 32" x 23" range and larger. Please look at cages with a full height front door. Its more for you than the Amazon - easier to get stuff and an Amazon in and out of. Toys, toys and more toys. Depending on the Amazon (adult), a toy will last a few minutes (sometimes seconds) to a couple of days. So, if that new toy is now pieces, know that is normal.

The information base of this Forum is huge. No reason to ever fell alone. If there are any faults, it is that as a group, we care to much. Take the advise from that point of view and you will find a wealth of friends.

I met one once at a well-known breeder's home. She was one of the most enchanting personalities in parrot-dom I've ever met. EVERYONE was totally in love with her. She would go to anyone and seemed to make each and ever person that picked her pixie cuteness up feel like "you are my ONLY one!" Little imp knew how to work a crowd. Her breeder could have sold a dozen just like her on any given day. So, given that experience, I've always had the YSA on my "love it/want it" list. I adore the size, short and round and miniature, but the personality makes up for the size. Anyway, I'm totally jealous. If I could have another parrot, I'd want one. Post lots of pictures and updates.

Still trying to figure out how to post the picture without the link. But figured it's a start.
