Mango - Sun Conure 3 months old
Hey guys,
Let me just start off by saying I really, really love this forum and all of your amazing feathered friends. You guys really have awesome birds.
So fellas, I recently came across a baby Sun Conure no more than 3 months old. My buddy, Mango, is starting to fit nicely into our home and he is adjusting more and more each days. I've had Mango for about 3-4 weeks now, but I was hoping if anyone could give me some tips on how I can make him more social. Currently, he really dislikes hands and I've slowly been trying to pet him especially when he's hungry and I have food in my hands or near me. So far, I manage to scratch his head a little bit, but only when I have him still eating. Other than that, he won't get any where near my hand without food or a treat (grapes and mangoes have been working well). Any other ways I can get him to become less afraid of hands or people in general? Any pointers will be highly appreciated, thanks guys.

Congratulations on Mango. You're doing great with offering him treats to get him more acclimated to hands.

My Sunny, who has been with us since about 12 weeks of age and is now 3, is still not a fan of hands. It seems to help if he can see the hand, the approach is slow and never above his head.

Sunnies are spectacular pets for us folks who don't mind their call. They're inquisitive, smart little clowns. Sunny loves to cuddle and hide inside t-shirts. He has a very gentle demeanor, unless he gets jealous, lol.

You have some amazing times ahead of you with your feathered companion. Just make sure to give him attention daily.

It's like an investment with parrots. The more time you spend with them, the closer the bond between you. Lots of patience really helps, too. :)

Thanks I appreciate the tips from someone else who's been through this.
First time owning a parrot so I hope I'm doing things right!

It really takes time! What you are doing is good. My JoJo will not cuddle, on my terms, and is hand shy, but really wants to be with me. We been working together for 5 months, love develops, isn't bought!
