Jenday Jenny
Hello
We have a newly adopted Jenday Conure, Jenny. She is 3 yrs old. She just started picking holes in my shirt and I feel like she is trying to make something cozy to be held in. She wants to be held ALOT. Does anyone know of something for that. All I have found is things to hang in her cage.
Thanks
Becky

Congratulations on your new friend! She sounds like a sweetie!

When a female parrot picks at the fabric and tries to climb into your clothes it's usually a sign that she's hormonal and investigating dark places to potentially nest. At three, she's sexually mature and this behavior is normal but you shouldn't encourage it by providing her with anything she can climb into like hanging huts and boxes.

She would probably enjoy toys made of catdboard or soft wood like pine or poplar that she can chew and destroy. If she becomes an avid chewer, store-bought toys can get very expensive so save all the toy parts that she can't chew like plastic beads, chains, and rings and make some toys yourself. You can buy pieces of plain untreated pine or poplar wood at home improvement stores and cut them into toy parts.
This Forum has many useful threads, some active and many in the archives, that discuss training, diet and general parrot care.
