Hi all, im just looking for some tips on a noisy Eclectus. I finally got my bird a few weeks ago and hes great . He's a male, about 12 weeks old and one of the best pets ive ever owned. The only issue he has is the squaking.....

He's quiet when im not around, and some what when im in the room but ignoring him. its just when i pay him attention, and when hes out of his cage its constant! at first i thought it was me, and he was stressed; but when hes out he follows me around and is a genuinely affectionate bird . but he squawks the entire time.... any tips?

Maybe he's hungry and trying to tell you? Do you have scheduled feedings offering tons of fruits and vegetables? Oliver, who is 14 months old, tends to be quiet unless he's talking or in the shower. In the shower all bets are off--he's a total maniac vocally--quite amusing actually. I wish you a fast solution!!!

I agree with drlisaort, at only 12 weeks your boy is most likely vocalizing for handfeeding. The average weaning age for Ekkies is 3 to 4 months of age some take up to 6 months. Did the breeder teach you or talk to you about handfeeding ? 12 weeks is very young to be fully weaned, although it is possible, it is not common.

I agree with the above, he probably isn't fully weaned yet and he's hungry, the breeder of my ekkie won't even let him come home until he is like 4 1/2 months old or fully weaned. He lets them wean themselves and doesn't rush it.
