Mango and I had a great day yesterday! She came out of her cage on her own stepped up onto my hand and let me give her head scratches! She showed no interest in going back to her cage but I had to leave the house so I put her back.

Today I'm using all of the same tricks and she won't come out! The closest she gets is sitting on the door frame.

So is it normal to take two steps forward and one step back?!

The weirdest things can make a difference... your hair different today? Wearing makeup or different shade of eyeshadow? Crazy pattern shirt or sweater? Music playing or tv on that was not yesterday? Window open and breezy but not yesterday?

Have someone else around that wasn't? Even something sitting next to her cage that wasn't there before?

Even after how long she has been with us Ivory will squawk when there is something new she doesn't recognize and if the kitten gets too close she will go hide in her cage.

Or she is just having one of those days like we all have, just wants to be left alone to take a nap :)

Birds just like us have moods,i swear that kiva has a bi-polar disorder.
1 day everything is fine and the other day you are her mortal enemy.
But she is still new to you,she still doesn't know what to think of you.
You can only take it by baby steps, what you are doing now is fine.\To get her back into her cage, show her her favorite treat and put them in her bowl.
I for one put seeds in their bowl when they have to go back as an treat, within 1 minute i got 4 birds running to their cages.

Parry doesn't want to go out sometimes - I never pay any attention to that.:) I think it's totally normal for a bird to be in different mood every day or have different priorities in activities she does. Maybe she was playing with some toy or doing something exciting before you came, so she didn't want quit? In the mornings Parry always comes out right away, but during the day he sometimes just sits there.
And as some here pointed out the birds can get scared of your new clothes or hairstyle. Parry would never come out when I come to his cage in my winter jacket and hat. LOL
