Hello
My name is Joe and I am owned by a male YNA who calls himself Yoda. I thought I posted a new to forum message earlier but couldn't find it. Here is to a second attempt.
I'm sure I have been a member here for awhile but I could not seam to get back on so I will re introduce myself and Yoda.

Yoda is 7 years old and has about a 75 word vocabulary. Tells me when he wants to go upstairs, tells me when he is ready to go night night. It's been a lot of ups and downs but I think he has about got me trained.
Now all I have to do is get him to quit attacking my wife. Being a strong willed Amazon he has bit me a few times some of them my fault for not noticing his mood.
I am his preferred human and will tolerate almost anyone who is not afraid of him. I always warn anyone that wants to hold him that leaving with all digits fully intact may not be an option. (That seams to discourage some people)
The only one he will not tolerate is my wife, he will hunt down and attack her.
But that is for a different thread.

I do enjoy reading about everyone's bird adventures. I hope I can contribute something now that I have a little more time to spend here.

Welcome to the forums, Joe and Yoda! So glad you joined us! Yoda is a very handsome Amazon with an impressive vocabulary. Wonderful introduction, thank you. Sounds like you have a strong bond. Hopefully some of our Amazon experts will be able to help with Yoda's vendetta against your wife.

Welcome Joe, thanks for joining, or rejoining the forums! Yoda sounds like an exceptional Amazon with a terrific vocabulary.

Has Yoda had positive contact with other human females? Wonder if his aggressiveness to your wife is related to her sex, or is she fearful? They can read us like a book!

My adult grand daughter lives with us and has never had an issue. She handles him quite often. I believe Yoda just see's her as a rival. They got along for 3 or 4 years and has just gotten bad this year. He has come off his perch at her twice last week, I keep them separated now until i can figure this out.

My wife has hung in there and tried for a lot longer than I would have expected her to. She has taken more bad bites than I would expect her to take without giving up.
If I can come up with a plan that has a reasonable chance of success I am sure she will try again.
He is not as smart as he thinks he is. She is the one that has purchased all of his new toys that he loves to destroy.

Plumsmum's advice to peruse the Amazon Forum is excellent and may be helpful.

For some general "biting" advice:

This one is from the Macaw Forum, but some of the principles may apply:

OK, so Yoda does not despise all females! You are probably correct that rivalry is the issue.

Welcome to the Parrot Forum and the Amazon Forum!!!

Please read the Threads that Scott recommended (by the way, sometimes is good to re-read them several times).

Since you have had this Amazon for a while and have developed some understand of living and working with Amazons. Its time to take it a bit deeper! Please read the second Thread on the Amazon Forum (found highlighted in light blue), which is titled: Understanding Amazon Body Language. I strongly recommend that you read it to your Amazon A Loud! and several times over several weeks. This to assure that you fully understand it. Now, with the Amazon in his cage, have your dear Wife do the same while sitting next to the Amazon's cage.

For you it is to re-introduce you to and expand your understanding of your Amazons and for your dear Wife, an introduction and redevelopment of a relationship with your Amazon.

A very important point: Whatever you may believe the problem is: It is Never the Fault of the Amazon! And, always the Fault of the Human! Start from that stand point and both of you will more quickly find and correct what you are doing wrong!.

NOTE: It is very important for your dear Wife to be the only person to provide this Amazon with those special treats that this Amazons Loves!! It will quickly help resolve some of the problems!!

Also, place your Amazons on Sun-Time!!! Up at Sun Rise and time to sleep at Sun Down! This will also help, since some what you are facing could be Hormonal Based!

Remember that Amazon's Have More Fun!!! And, we need to get your Amazon back to the center of having a full family of Fun!!!
