Nova has broken a blood feather , I had mr.stitch swaddle her and hold her while I pulled it .

It's come out cleanly and she seems ok .

Is there anything else I need to do for it?

This is the first time I've had to do this .

There was no more blood after I pulled it and she flew to us after

She's eating and drinking and shouting for me now 🤣 so I think she's ok . Just covered in blood . Any tips on getting her cleaned up ?

The feather shaft has come out whole, so thankfully Nova should be ok as that generally stops the bleeding when the follicle closes over. Clean up best achieved with a cotton ball dampened with warm water. Thank goodness you were able to help take care of this for Nova, broken blood feathers can be very dangerous!

It's thanks to this forum that I knew what to do immediately! We caught it really quickly. It's funny, it was the sound of her flight that alerted us to it before we saw the blood. It was different some how and once the feather was removed her flight sound was normal again. I'm glad we caught it quickly .

I was worried I was going to ruin the fragile relationship I've slowly developed with her but we are ok .

We will leave clean up for tomorrow.
