Sully-2 year old cinnamon and Bella-3 year old normal
breeding pair of gcc, Scooter & BeeBee-Sully and Bella's normal son's, Rosey- Bella and Sully's cinnamon daughter, Ella & Sunny-American budgies
Ok so yesterday was Sully and Bella's cage cleaning day so I put them in the travel cage(25"x20"x25") while I took apart their normal cage(32"x23"x41") and cleaned it. So after two hours of taking everything out, taking it apart, washing it, putting it back together and putting everything back in, I try to get Bella and put her back but she just went to the back of the cage and snuggled with Sully. Sully seems more secure in that small cage and seems to be more active and Bella just sticks with him, so I just let them sleep in it and I got Sully back in the big cage this morning and Bella of coarce followed but not until an hour later.
They are out all day, only get locked up at night, but Sully seems to prefer to stay in the cage and he liked the smaller cage a lot better. I think it is because they came to me in that size cage and they didn't come from the nicest family so I think Sully feels the small cage is his safe zone. Bella doesn't really care but she does seem to like it a bit better in the smaller cage too, just not as much as Sully.

My question is, should I just switch them back to a smaller cage or just leave them. I don't really want them in that travel cage because it isn't wrought iron, it's coated painted, and the grill doesn't slide out so I was looking at a 24"x20"x35" cage with all the features I want(including feeder doors because neither of them are hand tame) but do you think that cage would would make him feel more comfortable or would it still be too big? They came to me in a 25"x20"x32" cage which is really close in size so I think it should make him feel comfortable but what do you guys think? Do you think he likes the style of the painted cage without feeding doors, or does he just feel more secure in that size cage?
Sorry this is so long and kind of all over the place but if you guys could give me some input, that would be great.

I tried to get my TAG to sleep in his big cage but he did not want any part of that . He prefers his small sleep cage at night . I think they feel secure in the smaller ones . He is out all day and plays on top of his big cage, goes in and out of it and really likes it during the day but at night forget it....lol
My GCC's cage is 24 x 22 and is 35" tall (about) and I tried her with a bigger cage too and she still likes her smaller one. Of course she is out all day too so she only sleeps in it .
I think if sully is happier in the smaller one then I would just use that one.

That's what I was thinking, but do you think the style has anything to do with it? Because all the small cages he likes are painted and don't have big feeder doors on them, but the cage I want to get him has a playtop(they are out all day so I thought this would be a bonus), feeder doors and it is wrought iron instead of coated with paint, do you think he would care?

I don't think they care about the style really, I think they just feel more secure and cozy in the smaller cage. I think they feel more exposed in a bigger cage maybe?

Thanks for the help, I just put them back in the small cage and they seem much happier. Sully is saying beep beep and dancing, and Bella is eating(she is a piggy, I don't know how she isn't fat yet, lol).
I'm going to see how they do in the small cage for about a week and then I will get rid of the big cage because it takes up a lot of space and I wont have a use for it. I'd give it to my budgies but it has 5/8" bar spacing.
