I signed myself and my B&G Macaw up for a fundraiser for our local Humane Society. At the time I signed up, it was supposed to be 77 degrees Fahrenheit. The walking trail is in the shade so figured no big deal.

Now they are saying the weather will be 85 degrees.

Will he be OK? He's never bulked at warmth, I planned on taking him an ice water bottle to keep his water cold, and we will be moving along walking.

This event could take a few hours.

I just wasnt sure, I got mixed answers, and just want to make sure he'd be comfortable.

Me, I'd take a schpritz bottle to spray him down a bit if it really gets hot. Ice cold water , like from a Thermos bottle, maybe not such a good idea. My opinion, not backed by fact. Enjoy your walk with Rhage!

If you are absolutely sure that Rhage can cope with it then in principal yes go ahead.

Q's

Presume he's on a harness on your shoulder? Will he be comfortable like this for a few hours?
Have you done any tests to get him used to this beforehand?
Have you a back up plan in place if he is not happy half way through?
Being out in the open air with Rhage you will need to notice the predators that he will notice ie hawks above you and act to protect him if necessary.
Cover all your bases and then no unpleasant surprises should occur and more importantly if they do you are prepared and can act.

I wouldn't think the temperature would be an issue given that their native habitat quite frequently has temperatures in the mid to upper 80's. As long as you have your basis covered with drinking water on hand and such I can't imagine it causing any issues. Unless he just doesn't like the trails.

Unless it's 100+, parrots are quite well equipped to deal with warm days. Where your B&G came from in nature, he'd probably experience plenty of 85 degree days with 85% humidity and no spritz bottle or ice water. I think so long as you provide water, he'll be fine. If you want to spritz him too, I'm sure it'l feel good for him but I don't think 85 is warm enough to make that essential. You should also bring some fruit- grapes, apples, melon... moisture rich fruit is where hot parrots get hydration in nature! It's cool weather where you have to be cautious with parrots. I don't take Kiwi out if it's much below 70.

We frequently go walking around the neighborhood and in parks with his harness on. He usually sits on my arm, which i wrap in vet wrap for easy grip. It's not in the woods per say, it's a walking path next to them but I'm always looking around for anything, hence why I try to keep him on my arm, so I can shield him if anything does try. It will get me or my arms and head first. And we usually take a break every 15-20 minutes for water and snack. And when it's on the warmer side I carry a spray bottle with room temp water for easy spray downs.

I always have my keys to my car and know the 'rest' quiet spots we can go to if he needs aa break, or if he just doesn't seem to be happy, we just leave. I'd rather be continue to have good experiences. :)

Have a great time with Rhage and a pic would be appreciated if you can manage it.
