Hello, I am glad to be a new member of your forum. My pet bird is a Blue & Gold-Macaw named "Opus", soon-to-be 23 year old on July 23! I just read some controversy about crushed walnut bedding versus newsprint, and need confirmation. Hope one of you bird lovers can reply. Thanks a bunch ;-)

Hello and welcome to the Forum!

I prefer newsprint, I change it daily and it's just easier. I spray it with a mist bottle to settle the dust and feathers and roll it up and toss the whole mess. I've heard of birds getting impacted crops from crushed walnuts, but I have no personal experience with it.

Opus is a cute name, please tell us more about your baby and post photos.

Ditto, but I also use grates. I don't like my birds getting to that stuff.

Welcome! I don't have a macaw, but I use newspaper for my Sun. It also has the grates on it so he doesn't get in it.
