My new baby has been sneezing a little with some discharge since I brought her home at the weekend, and was planning on taking her for a new bird check anyway. So I took her to the vet - who just so happens to be Brazillian so he was happy to see her! Did make me laugh though as he came in armed with a huge glove and locked us in, but said she is the sweetest parrot he ever met and the trainee vet nurse had never handled anything bigger than a budgie so she was smitten too.

Anyway, he swabbed her and did get a bit of mucus out, and I have to wait up to 10 days for the results :( But otherwise he said that she looks to be in very good condition so didn't want to start any antibiotics whilst she seems ok as could just be environmental changes. She pooped on his table, which he says looks normal. He has recommended steaming her twice a day and perhaps getting a humidifier to combat the central heating (UK winters not friendly!). Other than that just nervously wait.

Oh and she weighs 410g is that good? Going to buy some scales so I can keep an eye on this.

She is not very happy now, keeps nuzzling into my neck and has hardly made a sound since coming home. :31:

oh no! thats bad :( but chill you bird will be okay. its nothing serious.
i think you dint mention which kind of parrot you have ( or maybe i missed it ;)) and icant tell for sure if 410 is good. it depends on which bird it is.

This si "Average"

My 7 months old DYHA Lily is 12 inches and weights 390. She is quite small for a DYHA, her brothers were 460 and 430 at 4 months old and 15 and 14 inches

Thanks for your replies.Funny thing is she has been totally clear of any sneezing or discharge today and nares look bigger and clearer than before. :-)
