Kiki, Cinnamon Pineapple Green Cheeked Conure
We got a new Cinnamon Pineapple Green Cheeked Conjure 4 days ago, her name is Kiki, and I can honestly say she is the most intelligent animal we've ever had. On her second to third day she started saying "What?!?" And "I Love You". Today I heard her say "Good night" and she mimics the sound of the front door opening and closing. I've read some post about how GCC aren't very talkative, Kiki is 3 and 1/2 months old and she is amazing us daily. I'm not sure if we were very lucky on picking her, or is every GCC this talkative?

I will post pics ASAP. Also, I've been reading up on some things and I've noticed they can be temperature sensitive. Our house ranges from 74-68°F depending on what time of day. Is this suitable? And she is beside a air vent, will this affect her negatively? We did buy something to cover the vent to direct the air flow on the ground instead of straight up on her cage. Is this acceptable? Thanks for everything y'all! Sorry for all the questions, just trying to make everything perfect for Kiki.

Hi and congrats on your new baby girl! There's an air vent near my cages as well, but I just cover it completely so no air comes out. And it's good for the rest of the house, because you,l get more air flow in the rooms with open vents, they'll cool off or heat up faster, so it's a win-win. That is awesome that she's talking already! You might have a genius on your hands! Post pics when u can! :)

Thanks! We're not even sure if she's a girl, but the breeder said females are more attracted to males, and she only dances for males, and she talks to males more. Her attitude, and the way she reacts to different genders makes me suspect she is a girl. I guess its just a habit to call her a girl.

Congratulations and have fun with your new feathered family member!

Thanks, and can anyone tell me why she doesn't like fruits? Is it because she is so young? She just licks and then goes back to her pellets. We bought treats to help teach her tricks but she won't even touch them.

Wow that's amazing that she's already talking! I just bought myself a Green Cheeked Conure off craigslist hes a full grown adult his names bellow but he's right beside a air vent also. I think she possibly might "want" a heater because my older sister has a sun conure Meilah and a green cheek Regional "Reggie" they where about kiki's (your bird :) ) age when she bought them she wanted to get them a heater and they seem to like is. Their not crazy about it though but you have to think when their in south america flying around they don't have a heater when it comes to be FREEZING at night time plus they have all those fluffy feathers to keep them warm. So my recommendation would be if you already have one hook it up at night ( or just when it gets cold ) i personally wouldn't go out and buy one unless he/she needed it like when their babies. Also not every GCC is talkative. At that age Shes EINSTEIN mine barley makes noises my sisters GCC is probably 6 months He barely says hello so your EXTREMELY lucky! Ok so if she seems cold or unhappy definitely get a heater cover her cage up at night with a blanket or towel i am looking forward to seeing pictures of your bird Ill post pictures of mine also BE SURE TO TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK

I'm trying to find some pictures, she is asleep right now so I'm not going to disturb her. I live in Atlanta, and right now it gets about 60-65 at night outside, and the hottest it has got so far is about 88°F so I don't think I heater is necessary right now, but I'll get her one for the winter. I notice before bedtime she will fluff up A LOT. Maybe 10-15 times a minute, I guess to get comfortable. Posting pics now.

Be patient with the fruits and veggies. Keep offering it every day (in small amounts so you don't waste it), and he will come around. Start with things like:

- cut fresh japaleno, Serrano, chili or red bell peppers (they love the seeds in the middle!)

- carrots, broccoli, green peas

- apples, bananas, mango, cantaloupe, black berries

Here are some pictures, these are from a few days ago, when we first got her all settled in. We're a little short on toys, and the cage isn't the biggest, but she doesn't really like being on the inside of her cage, she always stays outside of it. There is a perch that you unlock and it opens up, near the top of the cage, she sits on that, and when she wants away from the cage, she flies off and walks around on the ground, she does this often.

Sorry for the quality of the pictures, they were taken with my bad quality phone, I will be able to upload a better one tomorrow.

Ahh okay, thanks. I wasnt so sure if she was allowed to have hot stuff. The breeder said they LOVE to do what you do, eat what you eat, watch what you watch, etc.. So we had some Jalapeño Cheetos, and i let her lick it, she didnt seem to interested so i took it away. Plus im trying to keep her on a good diet. No human food unless its just a little bit on very very special occasions. I want little Kiki to stay around as long as possible.

Cute bird! She looks very smart indeed.

They are not affected by the hotness of peppers. However make sure you do not give her any Cheetos or other human foods. Salt, sugar, caffeine, chocolate, most spices are very bad for them. Look up 'safe foods for parrots' on google so you know which is safe and not safe to offer your little companion. :)

He is beautiful, congratulations!
