- Bruski (Grey Cockatiel) & Paco (Red Lored Amazon) - both adopted and loved!
Well, today was our official adoption day! After a week of gathering all the goodies we needed for Paco's arrival, we were finally ready to bring him home.
I was told that he may take a while to move himself from the travel carrier and into his cage as I changed things up a little to what he was familiar with - I added a thermo perch, heat panel and cuttlebone holder. He has not reacted very well to changes in the past.
I was also told, he will allow scritches through the bars of his cage once we have gained his trust but that that may take a while.
Last but not least, I was a little apprehensive as to how our cockatiel, Bruski, would handle the new arrival. He has never had another bird in his life.
With all that taken into account, I honestly was surprised, but within 10 minutes of having everything set up in his cage he moved himself right in!
As an added bonus, he gave us a nice little head bobbing and body waving dance enthusiastically and even allowed me to scratch his head through the cage <- woah!!! I think he knows he has it made!
He immediately began chattering and making purring noises. He even took the plunge and began to eat.
Happily, Bruski doesn't seem to be bothered at all by a new feathered friend in the house. They were quite content to both sit on top of their cages within a couple of feet of each other and preen.
All in all, a perfect day and a perfect match for our family. I feel so blessed!
