Gracie, our Blue Fronted Amazon.
When I say sweet things to Gracie girl, she like half shuts or slow closes her eyes at me and her head feathers fluff up just a little bit and she will look at me from several different angles. I'm reading it as enjoyment, is that right? She seems to really love being called Gracie girl and pretty bird. I sang Amazing Grace to her this morning and she really seemed to be smitten with that too. We are going to go for a walk here in a minute to find some safe trees to get some branches from to rebuild her perch. I made her large tree perch from a catalpa tree and I cannot find ANY information about the safety of those for parrots so I'm starting from scratch as well as making several tree stands. She needs new stands in her cage too, not only are they permanently filthy, they are too small for her feet. I wish her previous owners would have done ANY research on Amazons. Shes never been to a vet, so when her ins kicks in, we are scheduling first thing or as soon as I can take her relatively comfortably. My Gracie Girl.

She seemslike sheis fitting right in and is making herself right at home.Akey thing is to watch the dilation of the pupils, when they get small ( called pinning) you have her attention !!

She's definitely not quite that far, but she went NUTS today when I was cooking some instant mashed potatoes. Apparently she ate a lot of French fries at her previous home and had a thing for salty potatoes. I tried to make her some from scratch with no salt but nope! No interest whatsoever. But she'd do just about anything to get me to give her some of the junk stuff. Head flipping, dancing, wings out, calling, turning in circles. Oh my goodness. Most action I've gotten from her since day one.
And yes, I gave her a few bites, but this junk food habit is gonna break for everyone in this house hahaha. For Gracie's sake.

I wonder if I could make her mashed potatoes from scratch that she would eat without any salt.

Perhaps you could switch to sweet potatoes (more vitamins) with just a touch of butter the first time or two then discontinue the butter. SassyByrd does seriously appreciate a good grilling nonsalted her mix on her veggies though! I read somewhere that you can tell how big a bird's smile is by how much of a fluffball their face is. I agree to some extent, with toos and such, but Sass doesn't always fluff when happy. Have fun!
