I just recently went through the process with the members here on picking out a breed so maybe you could answer some of the questions I did and they could advise you better, these are the ones I had to consider...
What is your living situation like? (as in an apt, house, condo) because of noise levels you can have (with two birds you can end up with a lot of noise depending on the breeds you pick out)
What is the max cage size you can fit into your space? For instance, I decided on a medium sized parrot because I couldn't fit a bigger cage into my home that I would need for a large one.
What personality traits are important to you? Like cuddles, talking ability, known to play independently, friendly or shy to strangers.
How much out of cage one on one time can you offer daily? For a highly social bird you may need to spend several hours with him a day for him to be happy, for a more independent type just being out a few hours a day with you and being able to watch you go about your daily activities may be enough for him.
How old are you? I know my husband and I are in our mid to late 30s and didn't feel comfortable bringing home a breed that would live 70 years because I wasn't sure who I would be able to leave it to if it outlives us.
I would highly recommend "Parrots for Dummies" , I was told about it on here when I joined up and I really learned a lot about Parrots through it. I have a feeling it will be a reference book for me for years to come so it was well worth the few bucks I spent for used copy on Ebay.
Good luck to you
