Kazi - 13 yr old yellow nape amazon rescue
Hi all. I'm Kellie and I'm hoping to adopt the Amazon in my avatar soon. The husband is going with me to meet him tomorrow and he's pretty much the only thing standing between me and Kazi, but I'm feeling optimistic that he'll agree to it.

I have experience rehabilitating traumatized dogs, parrots not so much, but I'm willing to give it a shot. Kazi is currently at a local parrot rescue I volunteer at twice a week.

I've also been reading everything I can get my hands on for a month before and while volunteering so I feel as prepared as I can be here. I have a good avian vet picked out and while I've never had a large parrot before, I have had budgies (that I trained and adored) when I was much younger.

We don't have kids (by choice) and we have 3 dogs, 4 cats, 2 turtles and a snake. Our house is too quiet though, so we need a parrot :D

Welcome to the forums!!! It gets pretty quiet at my house sometimes even with all the animals we have. Except a chatter box lory that keeps going never stop... lol

Welcome and we look forward to pictures of Kazi!

Actually I'd have to say my new Amazon is pretty quiet. He has his moments, and then goes back to quiet again. He is most talkative and active in the evening.

The new Bird Talk magazine has amazons on the cover. They look like fantastic birds.

Thanks everyone :) I've spent the past few weeks reading most of the archives on the forum. I look forward to being able to contribute eventually!

Welcome! Can't wait to hear all about your new baby when you bring him home.

welcome and good luck ;) my man was the same lol but nut won him over

Hey Kellie, welcome to the forum, hope you can talk the ole man into it. Is Kazi an older Yellow Nape ? Most zons like an active house and sounds like you have that, good luck and let us know if you have questions.

Thanks so much, you guys. This is one friendly forum! Henpecked, I'm not sure how old Kazi is, actually. Unlike most of the birds we get in, he's not banded! But yes, I believe he is a yellow nape as he does have some yellow feathers on the back of his neck, but not very many.

Is there a way to guesstimate age with Amazons? Or is it going to be more like "well...I know his last home kept him locked in a cage for 5 years, so he's at least 5!" ?
